We’ve been in Alvor for over 4 weeks now & it’s time to move on. The weather’s been fabulous, the site is great and the neighbours are lovely! We’re slowly coming to terms with losing Sybil.
We’re planning to explore Portugal, Spain and France a bit more before catching our return ferry from Calais on 30th June.
Our first stop is a bit of a cheat – we’re having mid-week break at one of the thermal spa hotels in the mountains at Caldas de Monchique! We’re both looking forward to a couple of days of well-earned pampering 🙂
We’ve become quite settled over the last few weeks so it could be a bit of a shock to the system to be travelling most days again. As we’ve only ever explored the Algarve region before, the route we’ve planned takes us further north, visiting Lisbon for a couple of days and stopping at some of the scenic barragems (huge dams) along the way.
We kept bumping into the Camino de Santiago (Way of St James) pilgrimage route on our travels down here so we’ll also be visiting the end destination of Santiago de Compostela in North West Spain. We saw walkers trekking in all weathers and their arrival and subsequent celebrations outside the cathedral is said to be quite something. Although not everybody walks it for spiritual reasons, I am fascinated by the idea of making a pilgrimage & am looking forward to meeting some of those hardy souls who have completed it.
Before we set off travelling, I was wondering what we would do all day but it’s amazing how the time flies! We’ve had a few days out on the local bus to Portimao & Lagos but other than that we’ve mainly been reading, cycling, flying kites on the beach and chilling out! John is already a deep nutty brown colour whilst I’m still the same colour as when we left the UK! I may have to get my tan sprayed on when we get home 🙂
